I get to work at 2:00p.m., the children are fast asleep in the late hours of nap time. There are six four and five year olds today, but sometimes there are up to eight. One of the boys is awake when I come in and as soon as the teacher leaves he is ready to talk and play. A pile of books distracted him, but because it is quiet time he can't resist reading aloud. First he whispers, his voice rises as does any child. The whisper becomes a soft spoken voice which evolves into a louder voice. Now he's talking aloud and the other children begin to stir. I think about shushing him, but it's almost time for him to wake up anyway so I let him talk.
