Later it came to me that maybe Light of Dawn would be focused on Dawn's children and Night Serene on her grandchildren. But I've read some books like that and I didn't like it. It's sad to read a book where your favorite characters have grown old. Light of Dawn will be focused on Dawn's children, but Night Serene is not going to have any of those characters in it. In fact, none of the characters from Darkest Before Dawn or Light of Dawn will be there, only their ancestors. Night Serene is going to be set in the past, many years before Darkest Before Dawn. You might recognize some last names because some of these characters are going to be the several-times-great grandparents of characters from the first two books.
If this trilogy was actually written in order (time wise) then it would be Night Serene, Darkest Before Dawn, and Light of Dawn. Night Serene is probably going to be set about a hundred years into our future, 2114 or 2115. Darkest Before Dawn is hundreds of years after this book, though I don't know exactly how many years yet, I'm still working on establishing a time line. Several years before 2114, I don't know exactly how many yet, another civil war broke out in America. Soon enough other countries were involved in the war too, or just another war of their own. Canada and America became broken up. Some states are joined together, now called territories and others stand on their own, still others have fallen apart completely. I don't know the cause of the war yet, but I've only just begun, at least I've actually established that there was a war.
I realize now that I may have mentioned in a previous post on the Celestial Trilogy that this series isn't set on earth, but a it's set on made up world. I changed that. It is earth, but Darkest Before Dawn comes so much later that most of the countries and states (if not all of them) don't exist anymore. I'm also realizing that this post is becoming rather unorganized and I apologize for that.
Anyway, back to what I was saying. In Night Serene it's several years after the war. Gabriella, the main character, lives in Iowa state and soon travels to the Nebraska Territory where she meets the second main character, Sebastian. Now, because I just love nicknaming my characters, she goes by Gabi, and he goes by Bas. Two other important characters from the Nebraska Territory are Brookline and Cora. Brookline just goes by Brooke.
The Nebraska Territory is made up of five states, Nebraska (duh), Kansas, South Dakota, North Dakota, and Wyoming. Each state is governed by a lord and lady. The five lords govern the territory together. I haven't figured out much about the other states and territories yet, but right now Iowa and Nebraska are the only ones that matter.
Back to the characters. Gabriella Lacy Waters was orphaned when she was eight when her house burned down, taking her family with it. Now nineteen years old she's barely scrapping by, living alone in a little shack in Iowa. She revisits what's left her old home and there she meets Brooke who invites her to come with her to the Nebraska Territory. All too eager for an adventure she readily follows Brooke to Nebraska where she meets Sebastian. And then the fun begins!
Now, you might be thinking what I was thinking when I wanted to start writing in Night Serene which is that it's a bad idea to start on the third book of the trilogy when I've only just begun the first one. You would be right. It's not a good idea and I don't suggest you do it if you're writing a series. I lost my mood to write for several months. As soon as Camp NaNo was done, so was I. I did pick up Darkest Before Dawn a few times, and I worked on my notes and getting things organized. I was still having trouble writing in it, and enjoying it at the same time. I love Darkest Before Dawn, but I just haven't been in the mood to write it. I was talking to Ginny about that and she told me what I knew was true. I needed to write, and not just in Darkest Before Dawn, but in something else. Or just write some random scene. It didn't matter, I just needed to get my creative juices flowing.
So I opened a blank document, put in my ear buds, and started writing. Then before I knew it I was writing Night Serene. I figure, since it does technically come before Darkest Before Dawn it's okay to write it. So far it's working out for me, I'm getting a better idea of how the counties and cities were formed and divided in Darkest Before Dawn which will help when I'm writing it.
Maybe soon I'll put an excerpt from Night Serene on my blog. :)
Have a great day!! :D
