Hobbies
My hobbies include writing and crocheting. I used to include cooking as a hobby, but now it’s more like part of my job description. After winning NaNoWriMo and then losing half my work, writing has been at a bit of a standstill. So in my free time, I have picked up crocheting again. My older niece, Maddy, taught me how to the crochet quite a few years back. My first successful crocheted baby blanket I gave to her when her son was born, my great nephew. My next blanket I finished in time for my little one. After all these years of crocheting, I finally took the time to learn some new stitches. I learned how to give the blanket a border. I was about to start on another blanket when it occurred to me, I could take this hobby and turn into something productive. I learned some more stitches and got a pattern for baby headbands. It takes me too long to make baby blankets, but something smaller I could finish faster.
I started learning about how to start a business on Etsy in late December. By January 3rd, 2020 I opened my Etsy Shop. Proverbs 31 Shoppe. I started with a few baby headbands and just today added a security blanket. Security blankets are much smaller than the crib size blankets I had been making so it didn’t take me near as long to finish it. I'm really excited about my shop, but also nervous that it won’t take off. There’s a 20 cent fee for each product you publish for every month it is up. I have four products up, that’s 80 cents I have invested. I would feel better if I at least made back that money. I have had a few visitors on my shop, but no purchases yet. I know I only just opened my shop and should be more patient, but I can’t help obsessing over it. I really want it to succeed. It’s been so much fun to set up and I enjoy the work. I mean, it’s my hobby. How awesome would it be to make money with my hobby?! So awesome.
Social media is a great way to advertise my shop. Unfortunately, I only have a small following on every account. I was very active online when I was a teen, but a lot has changed since then. Most of my content was about my writing and the fandoms I was into. I write less and therefore have less to say about it. Posting about real life, well that’s kinda hard. Most of my days are pretty mundane. No one on Instagram cares that I am washing the dishes again, or doing the laundry, or cleaning the bathroom. Being the shy, private person I am, it’s hard to talk about personal things if anyone I know might read it. It’s easier on my blog because as far as I can tell, no one I know reads it. Not many people read it at all according to the stats.
With Ginny’s help, I have improved my Instastories at least. Improving my content and consistency, well that’s what I am trying to work on now. I'm improving my activity on Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest and now this blog. If you’re interested in my shop, I’d be so excited to have you as my first customer! If you don’t need baby headbands or security blankets, maybe you know someone who would be interested and you could share it with them. It’s totally okay if you don’t, obviously. But it would be awesome if you did.
I'm done advertising now. I'm just happy that I still have followers on this blog. I am so inactive and my posts so random. My grammar and spelling aren’t great either. Most of my posts start with a topic in mind and then I end up rambling. You guys are the best! Thanks for hanging around!
